Position Description:
Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the assembly, preparation and welding of metal, aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron and other alloys in the fabrication of piping systems, racks and various other items required to support the mechanical projects being performed.

- Blow torch: motorized cutting torches, pattern cutting torches
- Drill press or radial drill: drill presses, portable magnetic drill presses, punch presses
- Electrode holder: underwater electrode holders, welding electrode holders
- Gas welding or brazing or cutting apparatus: oxyacetylene welding equipment, rod ovens, storage ovens and hot boxes
- Manlift or personnel lift: hydraulic truck lifts, swing stages
- Metal inert gas welding machine: metal inert gas MIG welders, wire feed welders
- Mill saw file: single-cut mill saw files
- Pipe or tube cutter: pipe cutters
- Shielded metal arc welding or stick welding machine: portable gas operated arc welders, shielded arc welding tools
- Spot welding machine: resistance welding equipment, welding guns
- Track cranes: overhead cranes
- Tungsten inert gas welding machine: heliarc welding equipment, tungsten inert gas TIG welding equipment
- Voltage or current meters: arc voltage measurement instruments, welding current measurement instruments
- Welder torch: brazing equipment, welding torches
- Welding electrodes: underwater electrodes, welding electrodes
- Welding masks: hand shields, welding shields
Work Activities:
- Select production equipment according to product specifications
- Align parts or work pieces to ensure correct assembly
- Monitor equipment operation to ensure that quality standards are achieved
- Measure dimensions of completed products or work pieces to verify conformance to specifications
- Heat material or work pieces to prepare for or complete production
- Smooth metal surfaces or edges
- Regularly inspect equipment to detect potential malfunctions
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Highly proficient in all forms of welding techniques and materials used including aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron and other alloys
- Experienced in the reading and interpretation of drawings and sketches for items to be fabricated
- Proficient in development of hand developed sketches/drawings necessary to perform shop fabrication from information provided by field personnel
- Proficient in the set up and operation of hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
- Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions
- Layout, position, align and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance with specifications
- Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron and other alloys
- Proficient in the selection and use of torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to welding chart specifications and types and thicknesses of metals

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Ability and willingness to travel to local as well as remote locations (out of town, out of state) for short and/or extended periods of time
- Ability to hear and verbally communicate effectively with customers and team members
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time
- Must be able to: see well (either naturally or with correction)
- Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs to safely manipulate objects
- Lift and carry tools and materials weighing 75 lbs or more
- Climb up and down, balance and work safely on ladders and scaffolding fifteen feet or
- more in the air
- Stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
- The employee occasionally works outside and is occasionally exposed to cold, wet and/or humid conditions
- Work occasionally takes place at construction jobsites where normal construction hazards exist, including work near moving mechanical parts, work in high and precarious places, confine spaces and the risk of electrical shock
- Wear the proper PPE: safety boots that cover at least the ankle, clean denim or appropriate work pants without tears or rips, safety glasses, gloves, and your hand tool bag.
