Senior Design Engineer

Winooski, VT

The responsibility of the Senior Design Engineer is to work on design build projects for jobs assigned to him/her and to ensure that they are completed on time and on budget.

Expected Outcome:

Seeking an individual with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or associated experience.

Have knowledge in all aspects of HVAC and plumbing.

Capable of performing system field surveys, code review and design/layout of plumbing and HVAC systems for commercial applications.

This candidate should also understand equipment selection and control system sequences of operation and construction administration services.

Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD preferred.

Candidate shall have excellent communication skills and thrive in a team environment.

Essential Functions:

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform site visit to review existing conditions and meet with Owners.
  • Ability to develop clear scope of work for a project.
  • Work with Estimating team to develop sales proposals with system descriptions and drawings.
  • Sizing and selecting mechanical equipment.
  • Perform building load calculations.
  • Developing detailed HVAC. mechanical piping and plumbing designs from field input.
  • Reviewing and verifying adequacy of designs and drawings generated by others.
  • Producing construction specifications for all M & P trades.
  • Training engineering technicians in good engineering practices.
  • Scheduling engineering projects with the engineering team.
  • Maintaining and promoting continual improvement in drawing quality.
  • Providing engineering support to all company departments.
  • Maintaining an accurate and efficient filing system.
  • Reviewing Shop Drawings and ensuring accuracy

Competency (knowledge, skills and abilities):

  • 7 years + experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience designing HVAC and Plumbing systems from conception to final construction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent skill/knowledge.
  • Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the HVAC and Piping trades.
  • Ability to operate AutoCAD and Revit preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project
  • Superior communication skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects, simultaneously.
  • Experience designing clean rooms preferred but not required.
  • Excellent organizational skills are vital.
