Position Description:

The Fabrication Shop Foreman is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and daily oversight of our Sheet Metal Shop activities supporting fabrication of ductwork, dampers, and other HVAC components used on VHV construction projects.

Candidates with strong leadership ability and mechanical aptitude are encouraged to apply, even if they do not have extensive sheet metal or welding experience.

This role focuses on leading people, planning workflow, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring high-quality fabrication output that supports field construction schedules. Leadership experience in manufacturing, fabrication, automotive, or mechanical trades is highly valued.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to quantify and track productivity and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in a shop, manufacturing, mechanical, or construction environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of a fabrication processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, or construction documentation.
  • Experience with welding and sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Oversee quality control measures to ensure all shop work is free of defects and in conformance with specifications provided
  • Knowledge of relevant safety equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to meet company, VOSHA and OSHA standards
  • Possess basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Outlook, Excel, and Word
    OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

Shop Leadership:

  • Lead and support shop personnel responsible for fabrication and assembly of sheet metal components.
  • Assign work and coordinate daily shop activities to meet project schedules.
  • Mentor team members and assist in their development.
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and performance evaluation of shop staff.
  • Promote a positive and safety-focused shop culture.

Production Planning & Coordination

  • Assess shop workload and plan fabrication schedules to support field operations.
  • Coordinate with project managers, VDC teams, field foremen, and labor coordinators.
  • Ensure materials, tools, and equipment are available to support shop production.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, productivity, and efficiency

Quality Control & Safety

  • Ensure fabricated components meet SMACNA and VHV Build Standards.
  • Promote adherence to OSHA, VOSHA, and company safety standards.
  • Ensure safe operation of forklifts, lifts, fabrication tools, and equipment.
  • Identify and address unsafe working conditions

Fabrication Support

  • Provide guidance on fabrication activities including ductwork, dampers, and related components.
  • Assist with reviewing drawings, sketches, and specifications.
  • Support estimating and planning for shop-fabricated items.
  • Maintain working knowledge of sheet metal forming techniques and materials such as steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • This is a shop-based position.
  • Ability to hear and verbally communicate effectively.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Workers must be able to see well, either naturally or with correction.
  • Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs to safely manipulate objects.
  • Lift and carry tools and materials weighing up to 75 lbs; average lift is less than 50 lbs.
  • Requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, and bend at the waist.
  • The employee may work outdoors at times and may be exposed to cold, wet, or humid conditions.
  • Wear the proper PPE: safety boots that cover at least the ankle, clean denim or appropriate work pants without tears or rips, safety glasses, gloves, and VHV logo apparel when required.
