Position Description:

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive proposals and estimates. This role involves reviewing project plans and specifications for HVAC and plumbing systems, supporting design-build estimating efforts, and identifying value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two – five years of experience estimating HVAC and plumbing systems in commercial or industrial construction.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems, materials, and installation methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office (industry-specific software a plus).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and time-management skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare detailed HVAC and plumbing cost estimates and proposals for plan-and-specification projects.
  • Assist the engineering team with estimating design-build HVAC and plumbing projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and schedules to identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for HVAC and plumbing systems, including equipment, piping, ductwork, fixtures, and controls.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and analyze vendor and subcontractor pricing.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams during the preconstruction phase.
  • Ensure estimates align with project scope, specifications, and local codes.
  • Maintain organized estimating records and cost databases.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Predominately sedentary light office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work required (67% – 100%) of the workday
  • Ability and willingness to travel to local as well as remote locations (out of town, out of state) for short and/or extended periods of time.
  • Ability to hear and verbally communicate effectively.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to see well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs to safely manipulate objects.
  • Lift and carry supplies and materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist.
  • Wear the proper PPE: safety boots that cover at least the ankle, clean denim or appropriate work pants without tears or rips, safety glasses, and gloves, if visiting a job site.
