Position:
The Service Technician Apprentice will receive on-the-job training and from experienced Service Technicians on the numerous procedures relating to HVAC and mechanical applications in new or existing buildings across a wide variety of commercial projects.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- 0 – 2 plus years of experience in mechanical or HVAC industry
- Ability to work in extreme weather/temperature conditions
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical specifications, architectural drawings and construction documentation
- Knowledge of related machines and tools, including their designs, uses and maintenance
- Knowledge of basic mathematics and ability to read and use various measuring devices
- Possess or obtain OSHA 10 certification
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop proficiency through the HVAC apprenticeship program by both attending all applicable classes and learning the necessary skills through Oon the Job Training as outlined in the Apprenticeship Skills Matrix
- Attend and move through all four years of NCCER learning program
- Attend various additional classes including EPA 608, VHV Safety Classes, Natural Gas Class and NH Gas Trainee
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures and use and maintain company provided tools in a safe and proper manner
- Adhere to established VHV productivity and quality standards
- Develop strong practical problem-solving skills by staying engaged in the work, thinking ahead of the process and anticipating the next step and the next tool needed
- Work in conformance with all company, customer, and government safety regulations
- Ensure all applicable codes and standards are being met with regards to installation
- Recognize and report unsafe working conditions, and keep work area clean, put parts, pieces and tools back where they were taken from, and keep the work vehicle tidy and organized
- Understand the use of relevant safety equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to meet company, VOSHA and OSHA standards
- Show up on time and ready to work each day
- Adhere to VHV’s policies and procedures while representing and promoting the company in a professional manner
- Working with Lead Technician to perform work that is billable as much as possible, otherwise, offer to do the paperwork and make phone calls to keep the job rolling
- With direction from Lead Technician complete and submit daily/weekly Pre-Task-Plans
- Participate in the weekly Toolbox Talks
- Ask questions of the Lead Technician in a manner that will help you understand the work
- Call orders into the supply houses, speak with the customer, check in and out with coordinators and update workorder statuses
- Check emails, and messages regularly and respond to in a timely manner
- Work with and become comfortable with the Spectrum Application by keeping detailed records of labor and work completed up to date. Write Purchase Orders, send packing lists and receipts to Accounts Payable at the time of purchase

Career Growth:
The apprentice will work toward becoming certified as a Service Technician who is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, calibrating and troubleshooting HVAC systems for our customers including installation and service of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and related systems in industrial and commercial applications, in accordance with industry standards while maintaining a safe work environment. This may also include preventive maintenance service, emergency service and project services, as assigned.
In preparation to move up an apprentice must first master our Preventive Maintenance (PM) structures from start to finish. This includes ordering materials, receiving and storing PM materials at storage units and delivery to sites. Preforming the PMs and completing the forms with little to no supervision. Identifying deficiencies, and with assistance from Lead Technicians, address with customers to open Pull-Through-Work-Orders.

This is a field-based position. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

- Ability to hear and verbally communicate effectively
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time
- Workers must be able to see well (either naturally or with correction)
- Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs to safely manipulate objects
- Lift and carry tools and materials weighing up to 75 lbs (average lift less than 50 lbs)
- Climb up and down, balance and work safely on a minimum 30-foot ladder and scaffolding 15 feet or more in the air
- Requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist
- The employee regularly works outside and is occasionally exposed to cold, wet and or humid conditions
- Work regularly occurs at jobsites where exposure to construction related hazards exist, including working near moving mechanical parts, working in high and precarious places and confined spaces
- Wear the Proper PPE: safety boots that cover at least the ankle, clean denim or appropriate work pants without tears or rips, VHV logo preferably on the work shirt or jacket (depending on weather), safety glasses, gloves, and your hand tool bag
